How to get more stuff from Positively Joy!
It’s such a special time of year to speak to Bible translator Brian Simmons, and hear about his blessings. In the early 1970s, Brian Simmons was a drug dealer on LSD but had what he calls a “radical” conversion. He kicked it in one day. “I went from LSD to G.O.D.,” he said. Part of the Jesus movement, he began memorizing scripture.
He’s this week guest on the Positively Joy podcast. Years later, after mission work in the rain forest of Central South America with his wife, Candice, he said he was given a commission by God to do a new translation, and he called it Passion.
Simmons said he did it to please God, but also to express His heart of love. “The Bible doesn’t have emojis, so it can come across as stoic, it can come across as letters on a page instead of the heart of the one who’s giving His word to us.”
The Passion translation uses emotive language, using words that aren’t found in the original but the meaning is there. Like the word, “experience,” for which there isn’t a direct comparison in Hebrew.
Simmons has a new devotional, “God is Love,” and it’s a beautifully bound book — perfect for gift giving. Simmons story is amazing. Hear the rest of it on the new episode of Positively Joy.
